About the Author

This page is really meant for those who want a broader synopsis of what I've been up to since... well since you last saw me...

HS/College

I started high school at Oil City High School, in Oil City, Pennsylvania.  However, in 1993, I moved to Warren, Ohio, and graduated from Howland High School in 1994.

I went to college at Allegheny College, in Meadville Pennsylvania.  Four eventful and crazy years.  Well, crazy for me anyway.  Graduated with a History major, but I was paying more attention to computers and video production by '98.  During my senior year, I spent more time in the video lab than in the library, and after school ended I stuck around for the summer to work at the Computer Center there.

Wouldn't you know, the last month of my extended Allegheny career, I met my future wife, Tiffany.  Looks like I'm staying in NW PA, while I wait three years for her to graduate!

Post-College/Pre-Wedding

1999 saw me putzing around, working for MediaPlay in Erie, while I looked for a real job.  In February, I rolled the dice and rented an apartment I could not afford in Edinboro, after my parents sold their house in Jamestown, NY and kicked me out.  (Well, I kicked myself out of an empty house, anyway...)  A month later, I started at ErieNet, a local Internet service provider, as a tech support representative.

By 2000, ErieNet had been purchased by Stargate, a larger ISP from Pittsburgh, and I received a promotion to Technical Support Supervisor.  It was at that point, I decided to stick around and see where a career with Stargate would lead.  Near the end of the year, I had been promoted to manage the entire Erie support operation, which handled between 1/4 and 1/3 of the calls handled by Stargate.

In 2001, we went through some downsizing, which forced us to shed the billing and network operations section of the Erie call center.  Not something that I remember fondly at all, but of course who would?  During the summer, Tiffany and I moved in together in a townhouse in a suburb of Erie.  Tiffany got a part-time job at one of the local TV stations as a morning camera operator.

By 2002, Tiffany found a full-time gig at a local photography studio.  Then we went crazy and bought a house about 1/4 mile from Lake Erie.  It's fantastic.  A three bedroom cape cod, in a quiet little neighborhood.

2003.  Tiffany and I got married, honeymooning in Maine and Boston.  For details, click on the little attempt at a bride and groom icon on the top toolbar.  Right about the same time, I got an offer to work at a Computer Center at a nearby school, doing database work and end-user support. It wasn't a difficult decision, going from supporting 100,000 customers indirectly to under 100 directly, but I certainly miss the folks I left behind at Stargate, both at the Erie office and my home away from home at the Crane building in Pittsburgh.

As it turns out, 2003 became a very lucky year for me.  Stargate announced, nearly a month after my departure that they'd be selling the company to three interested buyers.  While many folks were able to ride out the storm to stick around with the new company, or get placed elsewhere, I probably would have had to make the decision I had already made in July to leave the company.

It's now 2005 and I'm settled in at my new job and a new house much much closer to where I work. (So close I've given up driving on weekdays!)   Not much more to tell!

About the Web Page

Once your name is taken as a .com it makes you think.  I noticed that jasonramsey.com was taken, so I thought I better become one of at least the three "original" jasonramsey's out there.

I registered with Dreamhost.   They'll register a domain for $10 a year, and for $7-$10 you can host as many domains as you want.  I've used this service since about February of 2000, mainly for e-mail.  They've been pretty good.  I shy away from free services, since you really do get what you pay for.  If you're looking for a web hosting provider and you do decide to give Dreamhost a try, enter my website as a referral.  I get a 10% commission!  Thank you!
