Rest In Peace

Some sad news today. A former employee of mine, Shawn Schubert, passed away early yesterday. Here's the link that will do better justice to him with comments from the people who knew him better than I. Here is the story in the Oil City Derrick about what happened...

Schube was a space cadet some times. He'd have probably been the first to admit it, and that's probably what I liked most about him. He rarely took anything personally, and he was a great guy to have around. He was a technical guy who was never afraid to marvel at something when it impressed him. I don't think he took a whole lot for granted. He always made me smile, even when I wanted to yell at him. I raise a Mountain Dew toast to wherever you are now, Schube.

Victory for Marriage and Freedom of Religion

Unfortunately, it's in Canada. It seems that our northern neighbor has been able to defeat right-wing bigotry and government legislation of marriage and religious choice.

And while this is happening in Canada, what of our great country? Bush 2.0 has made it his first post-election priority to stop millionaires who hit a ball with a stick from taking illegal drugs to hit that ball further with the stick. (I think he thinks he'll catch Osama Bin Laden if he can stop those damn Al-Qaeda operatives from using corked bats.)

He's also sent his secretary of defense to Kuwait to tell Americans that they should fight without armor and like it. It's almost like Bush or Rumsfeld have never fought in a war themselves... Go figure.

Bush in Canada for flu shot

Looks like Bush 2.0 made his first visit abroad to the great country of Canada, probably to make sure he got his flu shot.

Did you watch the footage of him attempting to make a joke about Canadians waving with all five fingers? Did you catch his bone-chilling snickering after the joke? No wonder Karl Rove won't let him out in public often without being wired to someone telling him what to do or say. He is a creepy, creepy man who doesn't get out much.

I almost broke down last night while I was doing some holiday shopping to get myself a McRib. But I was strong and stayed away from junk food in my post-Super Size Me anti-junk food push for one more day. I'm probably eating pizza tonight at a work function, but I'm not actually paying for the junk food, so does that still count???

Just a side note - the fact that my McRib links to dzigavertov.com has nothing to do with my on-again, off-again handle of "vertov". It's just an amazing coincidence. I have no affiliation with that site.

Okay - I'm done with my blogging lunch break - back to work.
