I think it says a lot about the current administration that the "mastermind" behind the political maneuvering of the Bush Administration, Karl Rove, is a
traitor.
I think it also says a lot about this silly impression about the media when the so-called "Liberal" NY Times reporter goes to jail to protect this right-wing traitor.
A short recap, because our country's attention span is famously short these days:
1. George Bush made claims about the status of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, backed up by claims including one about uranium from Africa going to Iraq.
2. Based on this speech, we have been embroiled in a war for the last two years, where innocent civilians and brave servicemen have died.
3. Joseph Wilson, a critic of the war in Iraq, and well placed enough to be in a position to confirm the rising suspicions, refuted the Africa claim that the White House had been defending strongly.
4. In retaliation, an "anonymous" leak outed Joseph Wilson's wife, undercover with the CIA.
5. A member of the media that received that leak went to jail to protect her anonymous source.
I may be crazy, but the leaker is a danger to national security, the NY Times reporter and Joseph Wilson are heroes for sticking to their principles, and depending on the breaks, we either have a fool or a liar as the leader of this country, because up until now, the White House has been silent. (At the very least, this whole incident will decide who is really in charge - I
really would be shocked if Rove went, so you know where my bets are.)
Can you imagine how different this would be if the right-wing screamers on FOX were on 2nd term Al Gore about this? Oh, wait... We wouldn't be at war, oil wouldn't be at $2.33 a gallon, and George Bush would be chainsawing trees on his ranch instead of the integrity of the United States of America. What a waste of eight years.
