Tim Hortons and Red Wings FTW

Just got done watching the best game of the series tonight, wired as heck after eating all those red Twizzlers and drinking all that Faygo...

I actually verbally counted down the seconds from about 3:30 left in the 3rd period. Tiff was thrilled with that, thank God I didn't wake the baby.

Now, for even better news. The Tim Hortons on Conneaut Lake Road in Meadville is finally making some headway. Moreover, I now have it on good authority that there will be a second Tim Hortons opening in the city of Meadville itself, on Park Avenue down by Subway. (Two unrelated sources have independently relayed this possibility to me.)

Stanley Cup? To heck with it... I'm ready for my old-fashioned plain and a double-double.

Bah... Shutout streak over...

Damn... Pittsburgh scored, even won a game. That's good for Pittsburgh though. It's good for the NHL to establish a fan base in a non-hockey southern (albeit geriatric) market. Throw them a bone, maybe they'll want to keep their team.

My wife knows about my secret crush

on Kristen Bell... So I can post about this without offending her. Because, articles like this do NOT make it any easier on me... And Chris Freaking Osgood is her favorite player. Could she find a way to possibly be more hot than that.

(Sigh)

Tiff, the fact that I married you over Kristen Bell even though your Penguins fanship might get in the way, should really mean a lot to you!

Standing down from the trash talk

Wow. I assumed the Penguins would be better than this. I feel kind of silly having talked all this trash about them.

It is nice to see Ozzie only become the fourth goalie in NHL history to go two games without a goal allowed in the Stanley Cup finals. I told some folks early on I wouldn't mind the Wings losing a couple of games to get Hasek chased and Osgood put back in net. It's been a great run. Two games to go!

My life is crap

apparently...

I got the most bizarre junk email this afternoon. It's from someone I don't know. The subject is "Best" and the entire body of the message says "Your life is crap."

I'm trying to figure out why someone would spam me with this... There were no links or other things getting me to buy something. I wonder if they're softening me up for some sales pitch at a later date to "uncrap my life."

So now I'm depressed. My life is crap.

One down... Yawn... Three to go.

I was hoping for a better game tonight, at least for the Pens to make it a game before the Wings put it away... I should have known better when Pittsburgh's coach Michel Therrien actually compared Nicklas Lidstrom and Sergei Gonchar as both "elite defensemen". What's Québécois for "LOL"? Some observations of the spring chickens:

I wonder if Marc-Andre Fleury's first "trip" to Detroit was all he'd expected. (Sorry - low hanging fruit, but still, it was there...)

Jordan Staal I like. He's pretty tough.

Crosby? Overrated. More like the second coming of John Leclair or Alexei Kovalev, rather than Gretzky or Lemieux.

Malkin I thought was a little better, until I saw him absolutely victimized on a giveaway by countryman Pavel Datsyuk. Maybe that was just nerves, I think Malkin has more in him.

Oh, and I can't resist. I don't know if a team can win a cup with a line of "You, Me, and Dupuis..."

On the Wings side:

Ozzie MVP. If Ozzie hadn't been stellar in the 1st period, when the Pens were actually playing decently, it would have been a very different game.

Lidstrom? Two penalties? And a penalty on Holmstrom taking away a good goal. Hrmmm... Wow. I put the refs on bias watch for game two.

Loved seeing some of the Pens running into the Kron Wall.

Mikael Samuelsson's wraparound sealed it for me. That one was just. Too. Easy. Game over. Go home, Penguins. Just watch your step out of the Joe, that last one's a doozy.

Wings win the cup!

The Wings won the Campbell cup at least. But, isn't the Eastern Conference the minor leagues? And Pittsburgh??? Don't you mean, the Kansas City Penguins? Or Las Vegas? Or Kitchener-Waterloo? (Heck, if they were ever the KW Penguins, I'd root for them. Give Jim Balsillie his franchise already, NHL!)

I've been rooting for the Pens to get to the cup all this time, to give the kiddies a chance to shine and to throw poor Pittsburgh a bone. (And because the Flyers, well, they just stink.) But now the gloves... are... off.

Random humor

Just got back from the facilities at work... There's a one person hallway in or out of the men's room, and a director and I momentarily stared one another down as he was coming out and I was going in. He's generally a pretty quiet guy, and his comment just struck me as one of those no-nonsense and quietly funny statements, as he stepped aside and let me past:

"No, you go ahead. You're in a bigger hurry than me..."

Don't know why, but I'm still chuckling about that.

Marriage and religion rant

Yay California. It's a simple equation, really:

Does government have a right to step in and tell two consenting adults that they are not allowed to be married?

Nope.

Furthermore, government should be ENCOURAGING marriage and the establishment of families, doing what it can to preserve and protect marriage and family, for the economy, for the stability of society, and for the good of all of our children. Why so many people with "family values" are against marriage and family based on a trivial thing as what their torso and groin area look like is beyond me. Remember, these are the SAME folks who were against mixed-race marriages not so long ago, and look how truly stupid they were.

Yep. It's 2008, people. And a mixed race man is going to be president of the country in eight months. It's time for the adults to run the country again. I can't wait to see Obama and Webb knock the tar out of McCain/Huckabee. :)

Abstract Meta Emails

I just got an email at work entitled something like,

"Re: Fwd: RE: RE: On Site Kick off re: Version 5"

that confirmed my attendance at a meeting this week that involves a conference call to plan another meeting that will happen next week where we will plan a project.

This is what I do all day.
